False Hope

Where do you find your hope?

This is a question for many all over the world today. Everyone, whether they know it or not is looking for hope.

First of all, what is hope. A few definitions I found were “A feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.” Another one is, “Grounds for believing that something good may happen.” These are both pretty good definitions, almost identical. When we look at these definitions we see that both are waiting for something good to happen. Having hope for something of the future. This post today is going to talk explain were we get hope and what are we putting our hope in.

This world gives us many, many areas to find hope, most without God because humans don’t want to accept Him as Lord. So we look to every other place we can find. I saw an acronym for hope that was Hold On, Pain Ends.  This is a false version of hope, just saying to keep on going, don’t give up, better things are coming. Another website that I looked at gave 10 ways to get hope. Find hope in action, in love, in education, in giving, in gratitude, in trust, in what your heart is telling you, in change, in being able to let go, in the least expected places. I look at that list and it makes me sad. All these places to find hope only give us temporary satisfaction. As the saying goes, “We all have a God sized hole within us that only He can fill.” We try to fill it with anything that seems to fit, but nothing in this world ever satisfies.

The world deceives us by saying, “look here for hope; this world is all there is anyway.” Hollywood puts out superhero movies that show people who aren’t happy until they get bitten by a spider and develop powers. That is where they are getting their hope. Or like in the twilight movies, where again, people aren’t happy until they become something or someone else. The reality is, guys, we can’t become someone or something else even though it may seem that way.

As Christians, we know that what we are hoping in, mainly Who we are hoping in, won’t disappoint. We have an everlasting hope, One that will never fail us and leave us empty handed. As 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 says,  “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
This is what gives us hope friends! We are able to be confident in knowing that this world is not our home, we are just passing through. When we are in the darkest moments of our lives, we are still able to have joy because of the hope that is in us! We know that one day, we will get to spend eternity with Jesus! It gives us a renewed hope for the future, knowing that Christ has us in the palm of His hand.

So I ask again, where do you find your hope?
