Raven and a Writing Desk

Hello everyone! I hope you all are having a fabulous week so far! I know I’m already really tired but it’ll be ok! 🙂

During one of our cross country practices while we were stretching, our coach asked us the riddle “What do a Raven and a Writing Desk have in common?”

This is what the mad hatter rabbit in Alice in Wonderland (a book I’ve actually never read to be perfectly honest) asks Alice. She says that she doesn’t know, and he admits that he doesn’t either and that is the end of that.

This raven and a writing desk riddle actually was never meant to have an answer but ever since it was produced in the book, people have been trying to come up with an answer. Lewis Carroll thought that the answer was, “Because it can produce a few notes, tho they are very flat; and it is never put with the wrong end in front!” (In the original preface, “never” was spelled “nevar,” which is “raven” backward.) The best answer I’ve heard for this though, is “there is a ‘b’ in both and an ‘n’ in neither. (If you say it out loud, it might make more sense.)

Do ya’ll have any ideas or thoughts? Comment them below because I’m open to any or your ideas of answers for this riddle with out a real answer.  🙂
