Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! Mine was a little stressful as we still await the cast list for Singing in the Rain.
Today, as probably most of you know, is Martin Luther King Day. (If you got the day off of school, lucky you! Being homeschooled, we keep going.) 🙂 I wanted to talk a very little bit about a quote from Martin Luther King and here it is:
MLK was famous for his civil rights movements, specifically for African-Americans. His dream was that African-Americas would all one day be able to live, not with their skin being judged, but with people looking instead upon their character. This was a big issue because, even after the civil war and African-Americans were freed from slavery, they still didn’t have rights. They were given rights around the 1960s, but I think that today there is still some resentment for the unfair treatment they faced.
MLK’s dream, that ‘they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character’ hasn’t been accomplished fully in America. (I mean, can it ever be because humans are always creating judgments, opinions, etc.) “Equal and fair rights” just isn’t always a thing that can be fully satisfied for everyone. It isn’t just African-American’s who are being discriminated against though, it is whites as well. Yes, ‘black lives matter,’ but don’t all lives matter?
I sincerely hope that you all have a fabulous Monday! 🙂 Comment below if you get off of school/work and what you’ll be doing today!
