The Voice That Matters

Hello everyone!! I hope y’all had a fantastic week and weekend! As I told you in my last post, we were at a family reunion. Actually, what happened was that we had our family over a few days before the reunion, we went to the reunion, we had family a few days after the reunion, and then overlapping the family, we had our friends come over. They just left Monday morning (this morning) so…..

I haven’t actually done any DIY’s for y’all! With all that’s been going on, I just haven’t had time. I was actually going to do a summer favorites blog post today (which I will still get to btw) but I had to through a lot of my clothes in the wash because I’ve been wearing them for 2 weeks straight w/o doing so. (I know, I’m sorry for the details!)

With all that said, I still wanted to post today and I thought (because I’m not prepared) that I would share with you this amazing video! I have been wanting to for a while, but thought today was perfect under the circumstances. 🙂 I hope you enjoy, The Voice That Matters!

July 4th!!!

Good morning everyone!! I can’t believe that tomorrow is 4th of July!!!!! That means we are well into the summer!

Right now we are at our family reunion to be together over the 4th    . It is funny because most of our family is Canadian, on July 1st we celebrated Canada day. 🙂 It wa a good time.

4th of July has always been one of my favorite holidays (besides Thanksgiving and Christmas) because it is so summery, and I just love the feeling of it! To tell you the truth, it really doesn’t feel like summer to me, maybe because we’ve had so much going on…I don’t know.

As Americans, we are gifted with freedom. The freedom of speech, the freedom to choose how we live, the freedom of religion; we are so blessed! Freedom does come with a price though.

We live in a free land because of the brave people who sacrifice and give of their time and some their lives. It started on July 4th, 1776 when our forefathers declared that we were going to be free from Britain and start our own country, America! Since then, this has been a country of opportunity. People from all over the world have immigrated here because of what we stand for and our freedoms we enjoy!

I’ve heard recently  that people have been going against veterans; trying to boo them down, and belittle them and what they do. This is so wrong. Those people probably don’t even realize that it is because of these brave men and woman of our country, that after they protest or do what they do, that they are able to go home and live their lives anyway they want because of these soldiers that they are taking down. I want us to take the time today (and every day) to say thank you to these brave men and women. It is hard leaving everything and going and protecting this country, but they do it anyways. If there are any veterans, past or present reading this right now, I want to say thank you so very much for what you are doing. It is truly the greatest service to our country!

Memorial day (it seems like only a few weeks ago) celebrated veterans. Today we celebrate our freedom and independence. We haven’t had a war, or really any real, big threat to our country or freedom since WWII. Nowadays, our generation takes our freedom for granted.

Let us always remember to be thankful for this wonderful freedom we live in!

I know that was more of a serious post, but I want y’all to have a beautiful weekend celebrating! Have a wonderful 4th of July!!  😀

DIY Popsicles!!

Hello everyone!! Welcome to the start of another beautiful summer week! I’m super exited for a couple of things this week. First of all, I just got my new running shoes for this season (they are super nice!!! Thanks Dad). Secondly, our family reunion is happening next week over 4th of July and our family is starting to arrive here on Thursday of this week! It is an exciting time.  🙂

I am so excited to start my summer DIYs!!! I’ll tell you how this is going to go: I’ll be performing the DIY and giving the instructions with my pictures. (Just now, I’m going to disclaim all the horrible quality for the pictures. I know they’re bad but hopefully you get the jist of them). Next, I’ll be telling you the overall price (roughly), and then reviewing and rating the DIY!

Let’s get into today’s DIY which is….

Popsicles are a fabulous summer treat and they are so easy, easy to make so let’s get started!

The supplies that you’ll need for DIY are: a popsicle maker (mine made really small, baby popsicles but it was only $.94 at Walmart so…ya!), sprite (or 7-up as I used), and gummy bears. As you can see, I did have lemonade there but that is because I also tried lemonade popsicles, just to see what they tasted like.

What To Do!

1.

Pour the sprite into the little container, almost to the top but not quite. We need to leave in room for the gummy bears yo!

2.

Stick in as many gummy bears as you would like! I did some of mine really packed and some of them, not so much.

3.

After you fill in as many as you would like, stick it into the freezer for a few hours. I created 5 gummy bear popsicles, and 3 lemonade ones.

4.

After they are frozen, take them out and enjoy!

$$ time: All in all, this cost me like $3. I had to get the popsicle maker and the gummy bears, but we had the 7-up already as well as the lemonade. The things to create these popsicles are usually laying around your house, but even if you had to get all the supplies, it is still pretty cheap.

The review: Ok, so these little guys were actually pretty good!

In accordance with the size of the popsicle, I think that it was actually just perfect! It would have been too big for me had it been any bigger, or a “normal size” popsicle. I liked the small size. It was perfect. In accordance with the taste, they were actually good! I liked the gummy bears as they gave it flavor.

The only two little draw backs I found were, firstly I didn’t really like the 7-up taste by itself at the end, but the way the popsicle sticks had to be stuck in, you couldn’t put any more at the top. The other draw back was that it was a little hard to get the popsicle out of the container, some of the sticks came out without the popsicles.

All in all, I will give this DIY

I hope that y’all try these popsicles! They are super cheap and really yummy and cute! It’s so nice you can keep reusing the popsicle maker so you can try different things/recipes. Comment below if you try this DIY and tell me how it worked for you! Have a beautiful week!

VBS and Nationals and Father’s Day and Summer!!!

Good morning everyone! I hope y’all had a fabulous week and weekend! it has actually been raining and storming a lot where we are, but today the sun is out so that makes me happy! Anyways, as you can see from my title, 4 things have happened in my life this past week and I wanted to share them with you today (before we get into the summer diy mode).  🙂

We had a busy week last week. First of all, my church held it’s summer VBS!! I love being able to help with VBS (vacation bible school) because you, first of all teach kids about the Bible, get to have fun doing it, and you actually learn something! I loved being able to just go through this week with the kids in our group and help them learn that God made them for a special purpose (that was our theme for the week). It was a lot of fun working with kids I knew, and than new kids that I had never met before. I’m so thankful for this opportunity and it is a highlight to my summer!

The next thing that happened last week was NCFCA held it’s national tournament! (NCFCA is my homeschool speech and debate league) It was so amazing to be able to experience all the wonderful work these students have been doing. I mean, these kids are phenomenal! 😀 Their speeches and the way that they debate was amazing. I was so proud of my friends who actually moved up and placed; one of them was a national champion in his category!!! It was a very fun thing to experience!

Yesterday was also a very special holiday; Father’s day! I hope y’all didn’t forget and you did something special for your fathers. We took my father and grandfather out to Culvers to eat lunch after church! I love my dad so, so much and I’m so thankful for his commitment to our family and to me personally!

The last thing; on Wednesday, summer actually starts!

It feels like it’s been summer for about a month already, but on Wednesday, we can actually declare summer! Next week, I’ll start with my summer DIYs so look forward to those!

I hope y’all have a fantastic week! Comment below on some fun things you’ve been up to (already in the summer or things you’re looking forward to)! See ya!

Summer Blogger! :D

Hello y’all!!! I hope you have been enjoying your summer so far. I’m pretty sure I can safely say now that everyone is out of school and on summer vacation now! 🙂

Because it is summer and school is done, I wanted to

First off, find what you want to do and accomplish it! Do you want to spend time outside, learn a new skill, sew a dress, make homemade ice cream and popsicles, all of these….? Summer is the best time to set and accomplish goals because you most of the time you have for the next 3 months is yours! Make a list of things you want to accomplish and actually do them! I know it is really easy to just sit down and watch a movie, but if there are things you want to accomplish, pick yourself up and do them! Get together with friends, run those miles, just do it! 🙂

Sometimes it is hard to know what to do though. If you don’t have a list of things you want to do, or none of those things really appeal to you, there is a solution. Have you seen those “everyday activities” calendar? It is a calendar, but everyday holds a different activity for you to complete or something new to try. They are actually really fun especially when you don’t have anything to do. You can find one here. (The calendar that I linked is a very educational one, it was all I could find but you get the idea!)

A great summer movie that I like to watch is The Hobbit. I’ve been watching it in the evenings with my mom and we just finally finished it. Watching all 3 movies took a while, but it was a great thing to look forward to. Now, my next goal is to watch the Lord of the Rings. My sister and I are also trying to watch the Avengers movies.

The second part of this post is announcing that this summer, I’m going to be posting summer (and non-summer) DIYs on my blog! These are going to be things tried and tested my me. Most of these things will be pretty reasonably cheap, and I’m going to be doing step by step instructions. That way, every week you can look forward to a new craft/project that you can try.

Most of these are going to be summer themed so you will feel inspired to be summerish (I guess…).

Some of the things you can look forward to are, homemade ice cream treats, DIY popsicles, a DIY ball gown that I’m working on creating, a DIY graphic t-shirt, some other fun summer activities, music videos, and more. (I’m not even exactly sure yet.)  😉

I’m looking forward to spending the summer with you! Comment below on some DIYs you would like to see, or summer activities you think we should try! I hope you all have an amazing start to your summer!  😀

Summer XC Running

Hello all! It is now finally June. I don’t know what y’all are thinking, but I feel like May was pretty long. But now it is over and the sunshine is out! Most everyone is out of school or ending soon! Yay!!!

Because it is June and I’m in cross country, I now have to start my summer miles. We have from June 1st-August 13th to complete our summer miles. My goal for this summer (or that length of time) is 300 miles.

Even though it is super hot and super hard to keep the motivation going, it is so worth it for when you start XC, because you are already in shape and you can focus on getting faster, instead of starting from scratch. I’ve already run 100 miles, in my pre-summer running conditioning. That made me happy.  🙂

For those of you doing the same thing I am, I’m so happy for you! Let me know how many miles you’re going and what you’re goals/challenges are. For all my XC runners out there, I wanted to share my favorite quote for running with you.

That quote makes me so happy! Remember that when you are on your 5th mile in a 7 mile run in the blazing hot sun. Y’all can do it!!! Good luck all my summer runners!

Before I leave you, I wanted to share with y’all some tips that have helped me from when I’ve been running. The first thing is to have ice cold water ready for you when you are done. The second thing is to set a goal and stick with it. (Like, I’m going 6 miles, I want to run at least 5 of them or so). The third thing is go to the bathroom before you start. It is the worst thing to have the urge right as you complete your 1st mile and you have 4, 5, 6 left to go. My last tip is to get cute running clothes to inspire you and make you feel good while you’re running.

I got these 3 shirts on clearance at Walmart and I’m so happy I did. They keep me cool while running, make me feel good, and of course, let me get a tan while running (the most important thing right?  🙂

I hope y’all enjoyed this post! Thank you so much for reading it. Remember to comment below and let me know if you are running through this summer and if you have any other tips to add. I’ll see you next Monday!

Memorial Day

Good morning everyone! Welcome to another Monday, the last one in May!! I don’t know how many of you are at work or in school today because of a very special holiday happening today which is Memorial Day!

I always loved/love this holiday for 3 main reasons. First of all, it is kind of the “start of summer” holiday. We usually get to do our 1st boating trip on this day, get out the BBQ, have family over, do a bonfire; it is just an awesome time!

Secondly, we get to be patriotic. We get to get out the flags and wave them high. Red, white, and blue are the main colors of this day! We get to get our American spirit flowing for the start of the summer on this day.

The last reason is because, we get to remember and thank those who have fallen for us in this country. A lot of times, we just take our freedom for granted. When we have the freedoms provided for us in the Great USA everyday, we take them for granted and forget the struggle it took to get her. America is a unique land in that we are free, and today, we are thanking those who took the fall, so we can live in freedom!

Today, we remember those who gave all for us.
